Sean Cannon was born in Galway on the 29th November 1940 to Jim Cannon and Kathleen Byrne. His' mother', Kathleen' was interested in the various Irish operatic-tenors such as John McCormack and played them on an antique grammophone record player whilst his' father', Jim', played the fiddle. Seans' voice' was classically-trained and when he was in his' teenage years', he became a rambler around Europe and became a painter and decorator and stayed in such places as:-Germany, Spain and Swizterland. It was in these places that Sean learned how to speak several languages, and it was in a German hostel where he heard a man playing a guitar and decided to take up the hobby for himself. Sean bought a book on guitar chords and thought he would never learn all of them, he did; and became a very good guitarist. In the 1960s, he moved to England and joined a band called "The Gaels" and they released one album. After this, Sean left the Gaels and became a solo-artist; well-known and cooked in his' "Kinetic Curry"' van' in such folk festivals such as Lisdoonverna. Sean performed in nearly ever folk-club in England and realeased 3 records:-Woes of War, The Roving Journeyman and Erin The Green.
In 1983, Luke Kelly became very ill with a Brain tumour, and as such Sean Cannon was brought in to help with thours and eventually replace Luke Kelly. When Kelly died in January, Sean became his' replacement'. Sean played the guitar and sang such songs as "Whiskey In The Jar" and also such songs like "When The Boys Come Rolling Home" and also humourous songs such as "The Sick Note" and "The Pool Song".
Sean married Pamela Blick, and they had 2 sons:-James and Robert Cannon; they later divorced. Sean and his' sons', do play together though, and they are known as "The Cannons" and play traditioanl Irish music, along with such songs as Johnny Cash and Hank Williams songs. Sean now lives in Coventry and also touras with the Dublin Legends.
